Fun things to do in Fuerteventura for families
Enjoy a picnic on Los Lobos
While the sea lion colony is no longer to be found on Los Lobos, the island itself is a great place for a family day out, and there are still quite a few seals in the region. However, the real reason to take the ferry to Los Lobos can be found in the idyllic beaches, crystal blue waters, winding hiking trails and excellent restaurants. Travelling in a clockwise direction, there are many spots with breathtaking scenery including a romantic lighthouse, rugged cliff tops, towering volcanoes and charming villages. Featuring a harbor with plenty of shops and a visitor center, Los Lobos is also well suited for tourism, but a nice idea is to carry food on the ferry, make sure everyone brings a swimsuit, and enjoy a picnic at one of the many beaches.
Take the kids to Acua Water Park
In the very north of the island, you will find Corralejo and another of the best things to do in Fuerteventura with kids – Acua Water Park. At the same time, this is also a great place for adults to relive their youth with many hair-raising slides and an incredibly fun wave pools. In many ways, Acua Water Park is also a nice excuse to take time away from the beach or the hotel swimming pool, but more importantly, you can be sure this wonderful park will entertain the children.
Take the family for ice cream in Molino de Antigua
While tapas are hugely popular in this part of the world, the kids are more likely to be impressed with ice-cream and with this in mind; a vintage town called Molino de Antigua is the place to be. That being said, even the adults are likely to prefer this sweetness over the tapas, such is the incredible flavor of their produce. Renowned for being the best place on the island for ice-cream, the ice cream shops are made with gofio flour which is said to give it the distinct flavor that makes it so popular.
Get up close with exotic wildlife in Oasis Animal Park
As with Acua Park above, taking an excursion to Oasis Park is another fantastic alternative to topping up the tan and the perfect place to enjoy some family bonding. Known as the first zoo in the Canary Islands to keep elephants, this animal park is also home to more than two hundred species of animal including meerkats, zebra, giraffe, and the elusive coatis. However, it is also a very luscious park, and there are educational shows for children to learn more about the animals. Finally, the journey to Oasis Park involves traveling past stunning coastline and desert scenery which always adds to the excitement.
Travel deep underwater with Submarine safaris
Submarine safaris are always a favorite regarding things to do for families in Fuerteventura, and the unique opportunity to travel deep underwater is sure to bring a new perspective to the kids. Surrounded by the bright colors of mero, vieja, barracuda and even mantaray, you can also imagine why this excursion is just as popular with adults. Another highlight as you drift along are the shipwrecks in between, and overall, this is a very affordable way to get the family interacting and having fun. Interestingly, Submarine Safaris is also one of the longest running tourist attractions in Fuerteventura.
Embark on a family excursion to Papagayo Beach
While you could happily stay on Fuerteventura for several weeks without wanting a break, the opportunity to check out Lanzarote is made easy with an organized tour called the Atlantic Adventure. Having taken a glass bottom boat from Corralejo to Playa Blanca, this is an excellent option for a family excursion as it also visits Papagayo Beach which is almost the capital of water sports in Lanzarote.
